In total only 21 of this style WLF were manufactured between 1930 to late 1933. This style front end was offered by WLF from 1930 to late 1933. Ward Lafrance entered the custom fire truck manufacturing business in earnest with this triple combination model pumper in April of 1930.
There was usually also a 12" chrome strip at the bottom of the cab front but FDNY had their units built without. This can be seen clearly on the engine on the right between the front door and the middle window. The cab curved out here and was fitted with a chrome engine cooling vent. The best/easiest way to tell the Century Series from the others is the cab was wider than all other ALF cabs starting right behind the front doors. The all red roof and lack of a Federal Crossfire Light in the front of the cab indicates they are 1980 models. I think both fire engines are the same model.īoth engines are Former FDNY 1980 Century Series ALF's.

The one on the left looks like an American LaFrance 900 to me.
